Bones Black: Werebear
Like all lycanthropes, werebears are slaves to the cycles of the moon. However, unlike monstrous werewolves who are driven only to slaughter, the werebear is a relatively even-tempered protector of the lands.
A rural herdsman tells a table of regulars...
On cool autumn nights when the moon is full, the werebear Grigor leaves his humble groundskeepers cottage and embraces his transformation into a hybrid man-bear. He dutifully patrols his liege’s lands, keeping a wary eye out for poachers and monsters. He knows every dale, every forested path. He has done this since his liege’s grandfather sat on the throne. When goblin raiders astride their wolfmounts threatened the land, it was Grigor who stood his ground and wiped them out to the last. The wolf pelts still grace his bed.
Now old and graying, his muscles ache from a lifetime of arrowheads and spearpoints. Grigor seeks a successor to pass on his duties...and his curse.
